Riad El Youssoufi

Intimate luxury riad with turquoise plunge pool, library and rooftop bar

Tucked into one of the most beautiful corners of Marrakech’s historic Medina in the Bab Doukkala district, Riad El Youssoufi is a place where the city’s energy softens into stillness the second you cross its threshold. Here, the bustle of lanes and souks becomes an outside problem; inside, you are welcomed into a courtyard sanctuary filled with light, water and heritage.

The riad has been carefully restored in the spirit of Moroccan tradition, with classic zelliges (intricate tiles) and an arrangement of banana and orange trees encircling a small central plunge pool. This courtyard, shaded and flowing with subtle scent, is the beating heart of the riad: a place to read a book, cool off in the pool or enjoy an evening of conversation and fresh tea.

The rooms are charmingly varied but all with an attention to detail and comfort. From the Chocolat room with its private patio and rich red tadelakt bathroom, to the lighter hues of the Amarillo and Ivoire rooms or the ground-floor Nacre with direct patio access, each space combines colour, texture and practicality. Air conditioning and comfortable beds too are a joy after a long day in the heat.

Breakfast is served beneath dappled light on the rooftop terrace or in the courtyard. Long lunches and dinners can be arranged. Alternatively, the hosts are happy to recommend good local eateries.

The riad feels removed from the commotion of the street, a refuge where Marrakech’s spirit can still be felt without being rushed by the chaos of outside. The calm is genuine, reinforced by attentive staff whose aim is subtle hospitality. They help with everything from airport transfer and guided excursions to assisting with birthdays and anniversaries.

Guests often praise Riad El Youssoufi for its sense of welcome, quiet elegance and strategic location - an anchor point for exploring Marrakech at a slower pace rather than a hub for frenetic sightseeing. On cooler evenings, the rooftop terrace becomes a place of stillness; during hot afternoons, the courtyard offers shade and peace; at dawn, the city strikes up outside the walls while the riad shelters guests from the noise.
