Villa Giona
A luxury historic villa outside Verona set amid vineyards with swimming pool, gardens and al-fresco dining
Originally built as a fortress in the late 15th century, the Villa Giona was transformed in the Renaissance into a summer residence surrounded by gardens, fountains and statues. Redesigned once again as a hotel, it now offers comfort and convenience just outside Verona in the heart of the Valpolicella wine region.
Each of the 18 rooms is beautifully decorated in a style sensitive to the history of the villa and yet also includes air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms and garden views. The hotel offers classic double rooms, a range of suites and even a double storey family apartment in the adjoining barchessa (barn) which has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen/living area.
The villa is set within acres of manicures gardens with founatins and statues to admire while sitting in the grand parterre. Beyond is a stunning swimming pool set on a hill with views across the Valpolicella region. The hotel also offers wine tasting courses and has a full restaurant with Italian cuisine preparing food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Located just 12km from Verona city centre, the villa is perfectly placed for day trips into the city to see the Roman Amphitheatre, the House of Juliet and other attractions. During the summer months the Verona Opera Festival offers awe-inspiring performances most nights in the ancient amphitheatre. Nearby is also a sports club with tennis and padel courts, aquarobics and lane swimming.
